これまで、佐賀市の伝統建築物をいくつか鑑賞してきましたが、私が特に気に入っているのが神野公園の隔林亭です。隔林亭では、池のある庭園を眺めながら涼を感じつつお茶を楽しむことができます。こうしたところに、日本の伝統的な建築が持つ美しさや工夫が表れていると思います。

私は、日本の伝統建築物は単に美しいだけではなく、とても実用的だと感じています。例えば、湿気を吸収する畳や日差しを和らげる障子などは、真夏の湿気を調整し、快適な室内環境を生み出します。地球温暖化が進む現在、こうした工夫の重要性はますます高まっています。

地球温暖化対策の一つとして、ZEB（ネット・ゼロ・ エネルギー・ビル）の推進があります。ZEBとは快適な室内環境を保ちながら、建物が消費するエネルギーを実質ゼロにすることを目指しています。

ZEB化のための省エネを実現する技術には、断熱性の高い屋根・外壁・床や高効率的な空調機器などがあり、こうした工夫は日射を遮り、自然換気を促すことで、エネルギー需要を減らします。考えてみれば、ZEB化は、日本の伝統建築の知恵とは、それほどかけ離れていないのではないでしょうか。

Up until now, I have come to appreciate several of Saga City’s traditional architecture. However, one that particularly caught my attention was Kono Park’s Kakurintei. At Kakurintei, with the leisure of a nice breeze, you can fancy yourself a cup of tea while gazing at the floating garden. I believe that this aspect is emblematic of the beauty and ingenuity of traditional Japanese architecture.

I am of the opinion that traditional Japanese architecture is not simply beautiful, but also practical. For example, by breathing in moisture and softening the sunlight, tatami mats and shoji screens regulate the summer climate, creating a comfortable indoor environment. With the continuing warming of our climate, the importance of such ingenuity is becoming all the more important.

One policy that aims to combat the issue of climate change is ZEB （Net Zero Energy Buildings）. The objective of ZEB is to effectively reduce the energy consumption of buildings to zero, all while maintaining a comfortable indoor environment.

The technology used to achieve ZEB incorporate walls, roofs and floors with high insulation, and highly efficient air conditioning. By mitigating the sun rays, such designs help reduce energy demand. In this respect, ZEB is not much more different from the wisdom incorporated in traditional Japanese architecture.
